Three months ago, I purchase a pair of Steve Madden "P-Flow" (aka "Flow") loafers. I was drawn to their good looks (square toed, modern loafer), comfort and the general reputation of Steve Madden's shoes. // But now, just three months after I started wearing them, they broke: the soles split crosswise under the ball of the foot -- not just the outer sole, but the inner sole as well. (I'm glad it hasn't been raining, else my feet would be wet.) These shoes have not been subjected to excessively harsh use -- just walking around the streets of the city. // I wrote Steve Madden customer satisfaction a short note describing the problem and asking if it was "normal" for their shoes to break so quickly. They replied saying that "Unfortunately we do not offer repair services and cannot ship replacements parts out. Please note that we guarantee against manufacturer's defect within 60 days from the delivery of the item to your doorstep." To their credit, they did offer a 10% discount towards my next purchase. // So now I'm doubly disappointed: I'm disappointed that Steve Madden couldn't give a better reply -- the 10% discount means little to me, since I can buy much more rugged shoes for much less than the Steve Madden list price. But I'm mostly disappointed these shoes wore out so quickly, and I really can't think of a reason I to buy another pair of Steve Madden shoes.
