The "hooded" description is a bit deceptive, however the tall collar blocks the wind and covers the ears perfectly. I think a typical hood wood take away from the beauty of the jacket. Most of these type jackets made me feel like I was in combat uniform, but not this one. This jacket is nice enough to wear to a casual dinner, work, and just kicking around. To solve the piece of not a full hood, I purchased just a little purse sized rain hat. You can also wear any kind of hat with the jacket and not have a distasteful hood hanging on your back. If you are looking for a jacket with such a hood this is not the one for you. If you are looking for a jacket, as I was, to keep you warm, lightweight, protection from rain (excluding head), and block the wind, then this is an excellent choice. It's as pretty as a puffer coat can be. Nice buttons, belt, fabric, finish, zipper, and lining. Most of all it keeps me warm in 15 or 40 degree weather. I am extremely please with it.
