Women, Food and God
from Francesville IN,  Sep 29, 2011

I had read excerpts of this book from Good Housekeeping and was impressed enough to buy the book. I was disappointed in the author's use of God in the title after reading the book since it was more secular than spiritual. I was not able to put it in our church library as I had anticipated doing.

  • How did the image on site compare with the actual product? The same.
  • How accurate was the on site description of the product? The description was accurate.
  • Please tell us about the quality of the product. The book arrived in good quality.

This book is fantastic...what insight the author has...This is the best self help book I have ever read...I got it out of the public library, read it and then bought it and now I am re-reading it and underlining certain passages.

Women, Food and God

The book is an excellent book. Unfortunately, I rushed into buying it through OVERSTOCK.com. You are over priced. Before I ever received my book, I saw it in ***** for $*****, and I would NOT have had to pay postage and handling., a savings of almost $*****. The overall rating of one (1) star is for the price ONLY. The book, itself, should get a five (5) star rating for its content. Yes, I would recommend the book, however, I will think twice about recommending OVERSTOCK.COM

Women Food and God

I found this book utterly boring, uninformative and a total waste of time and money. I had heard about it on the Oprah show and thought I would enjoy it. . . not so. Total Waste!!

Didn't get into it
 from VA,  Jul 28, 2010

I've read a number of self-help books and I just didn't get into this one much. There are a few good points, but overall, not a motivational read. One point I do remember: Feel your pain and deal with it, don't eat your way through it.

Great Book
from Columbus, OH,  Jul 19, 2010

I loved this book. I purchased this book after watching the author being interviewed on the Oprah show. It is an excellent read and makes a lot of sense. Of course, success comes with a lot of discipline and determination. The book was priced very well and was delivered very timely.

Interesting ideas
 from WA,  Jul 9, 2010

I really like the premise of this book. I only gave it 4 stars because it is not an easy read. Writer rather drones on in a self absorbed way. Nevertheless she has a great message.

Women Food God

The book arrived in great shape. The packaging was a bit tough to open. I suppose that was good though, it protected the book itself. I have enjoyed the book immensely.

Great Book
from Portland, OR,  Jun 28, 2010

I really enjoyed this book. It is not a diet book and is more about the psychology of deprivation or compulsive eating. I don't think it is a comprehensive plan for better health but it's an interesting component of it.

Women Food and God

Geneen Roth presents information about living that woman can related to. Many times her comments hit right on the button and shed light into the dark corners of ourselves. I will continue to read books that she writes on my quest to find ME.

Oprah recommended..I bought it
from Saint Petersburg, Florida USA,  Jun 5, 2010

I purchased this book after watching the book being discussed on Oprah. I'm a sucker for looking into & later purchasing things that Oprah recommends! It's a pretty short book (211 pages) & is easy to read. The author tells many stories that I could relate to (& I'm assuming others could as well). The author's "eating guidelines" are straightforward & understandable. The true trick is how to apply them in your life & as situations present themselves to the reader. I've read it once through & am currently reading it again & writing how exerpts impact myself. It's an ongoing process but one that should work...don't eat when not hungry = taking in fewer calories = weight loss.

Thrilled with how quickly I received the 2 books I ordered. One for me and one for my niece. She has already lost 10 lbs. in eight days by just reading this book. I just started it myself, but ready to go. Have already recommended it to others.

God in the Title is Misleading
 from Georgia,  Jun 4, 2010

I started reading 'Women Food and God' a few weeks ago because I was drawn by 'God' in the title. Several years ago, I battled binge eating and my weight increased up to 240 pounds. But I was healed of that issue and lost 85 pounds. I have kept it off for many years now. I give credit for my victory to my personal relationship with God. I learned that God is about restoration, not condemnation. He wanted to teach me and lead me in the way I should go every day. I came to know God as my Healer, Strength, Wisdom, and Truth. Once I learned about his character and knew I could trust him, then He became my source of comfort and I turned to him when I was emotionally upset rather than food. I was hoping to see the God who healed me in the book. Sadly, I did not. Early in the book, Ms. Roth says that it doesn't matter if you believe in one God, many gods, or no god. To me, that said a lot about how important she views God if she says it doesn't matter if you believe he exists. Then where is God is the process? Having God in the title is misleading if it turns out he is irrelevant. I do give Ms. Roth credit for shining a light on this dark issue. So many women are suffering from eating disorders of all types. But I was disappointed that she includes God in the title, but there is nothing about his strength, character, and power in the pages of the book. It's really just standard self help. In my own recovery, it was critical for me to have a stable view of God - and trust in his ability to change my life. Not God as I chose to define him but as he defines himself in his word, the bible. I wrote this review for others who might be seeking a Godly solution to healing binge eating. Perhaps others seeking a secular solution might find value in this book but I did not because I know that a personal relationship with God empowers you to turn to him for comfort rather than food. Women, Food & God
from New York, NY,  May 15, 2010

MY first experience with this writer although I had heard of her in my circle of healers. Her writng style can be a bit choppy however the message is excellent re: emotional eating and self-healing. Ms. Roth's work can be applied to any addiction since addictions are a means of numbing oneself to one's emotions. The author is funny, honest re: her struggles and offers a raw exposure to the excuses, whys and denials of why we eat to block (and not deal with) our feelings and emotions. This book is a keeper and one I'll refer to over & over. I have purchased it for friends and their reactions are similar to mine. I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with coming to terms with their private practices of self-sabotage.
