My mother purchased this movie for my children to watch when they visited her and she quickly fell in love with it herself. However while working on their VCR my father used this tape as a "test" and completely ruined it. She was crushed. Although several years had passed she still occasionally mentioned the loss of her beloved movie. When she visited recently I was pleased to present her with a copy of the movie on DVD. She was thrilled. We watched it right away and then she carefully packed it away in her suitcase so as not to forget it when she returned home. The heart warming story of a young woman who achieves her dreams despite the life changing events she encounters is something you can watch again and again. I know my mother will!
I'm not going into plot details because I want to emphasize that this is an excellent movie for adults, kids, or with a significant other on a "stay at home" night. This is not a hard-core intellectual film, but a very charming and entertaining story perfectly suited for a relaxed night of viewing with a big bowl of popcorn. As an added bonus, the soundtrack matches the time period very well and adds to the background texture of the viewing experience. If taken for what it is, and not held up for comparison with deeply intellectual films, this is an extremely enjoyable film. For these reasons I've put this among my top 10 favorite films in my fairly large collection of DVDs.
This was an amazing movie! The true story of a girl who dives on horseback...amazing! I would recommend this movie to anyone with a love of horses, or even anyone interested in how people spent their time during the great depression! It's a great story!
