WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE was one of the first children's books to depict the sometimes subversive inner mind of a child. A seemingly simple tale about monsters, the story allows readers to deal with their fears of the unknown. Wearing a wolf suit and acting like a wild child, a boy named Max gets so out of control that his mother sends him to bed without his dinner. That night Max laughs with delight as his room is transformed into a land inhabited by wild things -- monsters almost as wild as Max himself. At first, the monsters try to scare Max, but, using a magic trick to triumph over them, he becomes their king. Although Max enthusiastically contributes in the creatures' wild rumpus, he eventually returns home -- where he finds his dinner, still hot, waiting for him in his bedroom. Although some found the jewel-toned, crosshatched pen-and-ink illustrations too frightening for children, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE was selected by the New York Times Book Review as one of the Best Illustrated Children's Books of 1963, and it also won the 1964 Caldecott Medal.

I remember reading this book when I was a child, and thought it would be a good book to read to my son. Good classic book and the shipping was fast.
My daughter is in college getting her Masters in Education. This book is an addition to her collection for her students to read. Also she will be using it for teaching purposes in her class. Since this is an older book, it is hard to find it in bookstores. The price was good and the amount of time it took to receive the book was fast. I can count of finding articles from your service the majority of the time and nicely priced.
A classic for any little boy 4 y.o. or older. It takes the "fear" out of monsters. I only wish I had purchased a board book, the soft cover version is not as sturdy as a hardcover or board book.
Another Maurice Sendak Classic. Appropriate for any age. A wonderful story.
I read this book in school. I bought it for my child. Great to pass on. Good memories and excellent reading.
