This Putumayo sampler, entitled REGGAE AROUND THE WORLD, charts the effect of that influence, and the way it appears, either undiluted or in hybridized form, in music from Africa, Australia, South America, and the U.S. The inclusion of pureblood reggae artists like Burning Spear keeps the original torch burning, but the real treat is in hearing how reggae is incorporated into songs from Nigeria, Ghana, Brazil, and elsewhere. Like most Putumayo releases, REGGAE AROUND THE WORLD is bright, groove-centric, and eminently listenable.
