Not the best album by The Rippingtons
from Los Angeles, CA,  Jan 21, 2012

If this is suppose to represent the real Côte D'Azur in musical form then...,I'm really disappointed with it. I've been a fan of Russ Freeman's The Rippingtons for several years. So in those years I have gone and bought every CD that they have released. I recently found out about this one (which was released almost a year ago) and was exited to see where they would take us to this time. Each time, Russ and the band is able to take me to the places where they set their albums or songs. From the slopes of Aspen to the painted canyons of Taos. From the tropical Caribbean islands to the sands of the Sahara. Each time, they have taken me to a place far away from the office. This time, I just don't feel that they took me anywhere other than to an electronic, repetitive place known as Russ Freeman's sequencers. Other than his guitar work and Jeff Kashiwa's saxophones everything is just all synths and drum machines. Some people might like this since this is how most Rippingtons albums where in the past. But Russ and The Rippingtons sound better when they all play on their albums. Great example is the album "Let it Ripp" where the entire band plays and plus they have a full horn section. We will see what the next album brings, hopefully the next one will be better than just Russ playing. If it is, great, If it isn't, then Russ Freeman should release it under only his name. That way there is a distinction his own self played albums and the band's albums.
