Like PARADISE LOST, THE PRELUDE takes the form of a journey to hell, in the form of a psychological crisis, and the poet`s anguished journey back to sanity. Wordsworth`s great autobiographical poem includes an account of the time he spent in France, during which he staunchly supported the revolutionist ideals and also became involved with Annette Vallon, who gave birth to his daughter. Accordingly, THE PRELUDE was not published until after Wordsworth`s death.
