This is my all time favorite book. the story is riveting and shows the very interesting life of a family of missionaries. A type of historic novel, but perhaps better for those of us not in favor of proselytizing. Very well written.
i actually had to read this book when i was a senior in highschool (graduated 2008). you have to really enjoy reading to pick this book up :)
This book is a literary triumph. This book is approachable to the average reader, but complex enough for even the most versed readers. The metaphors in this book and the overall implications of the characters' actions make this book truly amazing. The Poisonwood Bible is a must-read (and a must pass on to your friends as well).
I had to read this book in high school during my senior honors English class four years ago, and it has been on my "favorites" list ever since! I have reccommended the book to others! Parts of it are a little weird and long, but overall I found the book moving and interesting! I'm surprised people didn't like it...my entire class loved it! I'm not usually one for missionary novels, but you almost lose sight of it when you're reading it. This book has every emotion in it, and I plan to read it again! Give it a chance!
I found this book disturbing. I was expecting sacrifice and turmoil and even tragedy in a missionary's family. I was not expecting this!!! And, although I usually love the unexpected - I mean this in a negative way.
I found this book rather boring and tedious. I read it for our book club and I hope that our discussion brings more to the book for me. It was rather drawn out and the story did not 'flow'.
Another well written book by Barbara Kingsolver. Once i started reading, i couldn't put it down.
