In 1909, Arthur Edward Waite encouraged Pamela Colman Smith to produce a tarot deck with appeal to the world of art that would have significance behind the symbols and thus make the deck more important than tarot packs previously used for centuries. The result was the unique Rider-Waite tarot deck which has endured as the world`s most popular 78-card tarot deck. The innovative cards, including the 56 Minor Arcana, depict full scenes with figures and symbols. This feature, combined with Pamela Colman Smith`s ability to capture the subtleties of emotion and experience, has made the Rider-Waite Tarot the basis for the designs of many century decks. Facsimile edition of the Rider Waite Tarot deck originally printed from plates that were destroyed during the bombing of London during WWII. The deck and book set comes complete with fullcolor 78-card Rider Waite Tarot deck by Pamela Colman Smith with original Tudor Rose back design, Celtic Cross divinatory chart, and The Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite, 160 (pb). Cards measure 2 3/4 x 4 3/4.

Great for Beginner readers
This deck is definitely a "staple" in the large selection of tarot literature that exists today. I highly recommend using this tarot pack if you are a beginning reader. The cloth has the standard celtic cross spread already imprinted on it for easy learning and the mini book provides just enough information to get one started on the path to reading. However, if you are a skilled reader to begin with, this tarot pack would not be for you; the deck, alone would be sufficient.

Good Deck
This deck has a nice look to it. The package contains a book with the deck which is a bit difficult to follow although it does provide for reverse meanings which many books do not. I would suggest purchasing this deck along with a book such as "Power Tarot" to provide more insight on the cards and many more spreads.

Excellent price for a great product!
I love this deck. It's so easy to use, especially for the beginner. The little book that comes with the deck gives a nice overview of various ways to use the deck. The print is a bit on the tiny side as the book is small enough to fit in your pocket but it's still quite useable; very handy. The artwork is lovely. I've been quite happy with my purchase.

I bought this set based on the previous reviews and I quite agree with the other reviewers. This set is very nice, easy to use and I do recommend it. However, the book that came in the set, one would need a magnifying glass to read it. Thank you Overstock for great service.
