Perhaps the strangest variety show ever to air on television, the wildly popular MUPPET SHOW helped to spawn an entire series starring Jim Henson's crew of puppet comedians. Combining musical numbers with comedy, THE MUPPET SHOW centered on the efforts of Kermit the Frog and his team of performers to put on a weekly show, featuring both the onstage acts as well as the backstage problems. Each week a new guest star, among the most distinguished entertainers of the time, would appear to participate in some of the skits and assist Kermit in making order out of the backstage chaos. Although the humor of THE MUPPET SHOW was often more adult and occasionally risqué than the later Muppet endeavors, it was still appropriate for every member of the family. SEASON ONE contains all 24 episodes of the program's first year (the 1976-77 television season), and features guest stars who are still well-known today, such as Lena Horne, Peter Ustinov, Candice Bergen, Vincent Price, and many others.

  • Great choice for a true Muppet fan

    This four disc set is from the very beginnings of the Muppet show on TV. Many guest stars are European and not necessarily household names like the big names that appeared in later years. Nevertheless, it is classic Muppets and very enjoyable. I bought this for my daughter and she enjoys watching all four discs. There isn't a bad choice in the box. It's full of great humor and classic bits. You will see Miss Piggy before she became the glamorous star that she is today. It's a joy to see the pure Muppets as Jim Henson imagined them. I recommend this for Muppet fans of all ages.

  • It's the Muppets!

    First of all, there is a lot of viewing time included in this set--4 discs of Muppet joy. I absolutely adored the Muppet Show as a kid and wanted to introduce my 5 y.o. to the characters before going to see the Muppet Movie (5-stars that!) -- I was hoping that it still stood up to modern viewing. It does! I love it. My 5 y.o. loves it. The only thing that makes it less than 5 stars is that the guest stars are so dated, and because this is the first season, I don't think they were getting the best guest stars either. My son gets a little bored with the random 70s interpretive dancing. I am looking forward to the more-familiar guest stars in Season 2 and beyond. Some of it is also hysterically un-PC but all in that gentle Muppet way. Warning: the manamana skit is in the very first episode and will be stuck in your head forever after your kids latch onto it.

  • THE MUPPET SHOW SEASON ONE.

    I personally don't like these shows because it focuses so much on individulals who guest star in each episode, I want a show that has the muppets ONLY!! .Not PEOPLE!. I think it just messes whole show up,and it's not funny,because of that...

    My daughters 20 and wanted this for her birthday. She loved it. And I got to see the ole stars of back in my day and my Mothers day. Nice to have

  • The Muppets are a Classic!

    How much fun it was to introduce the Muppet Show to my six year old nephew-- he is now a Fozzie addict! You forget how clever this show is for both kids and adults until you see it again.
