The Lost Boy is the sequel to Pelzer's autobiography of his abusive childhood. Here he tells us his story starting with leaving his abusive mother and alcoholic father, on to the events in his five foster homes and then juvenile detention, then how he finally decided to join the Air Force. He was very close with many of his teachers and guardians, as well as some social workers, despite his naturally rebellious personality. Pelzer writes in a very gentle style, never bitter or hostile about his experiences, but also tends to leave a lot of unanswered questions and thoughts about how he turned his life around as well as about his personal relationships with his son and the mother of his son.
