Very powerful story - was difficult to remember that it is fiction. One of the few books I've read that really stayed in my mind for weeks afterward. Certainly one of my favorite books of all time if not the favorite.

Another novel-turned-film
from Nashville, TN,  Dec 21, 2010

but this one's not so bad. It's a good story that lends great insight into a Middle Eastern culture most Americans know nothing about. If nothing else, it helps promote understanding and tolerance. I'm all for that!

A must read
from Los Angeles,  May 6, 2010

Read the book and also watched the movie with a 14 year old son. Some serious, mature topics, but a strong message that fosters understanding of cultural differences and impact of war on various facets of life, even for young children.

A Must Read!
from St. Augustine, FL,  Aug 21, 2009

This book is by far the BEST book I have ever read! Typically, I pick up a book, read about 10 pages and get bored with it and put it down to never be picked back up....not with this book! The Kite Runner is an amazing and moving story of a boy named Amir. The narrator, Amir, faces both turmoil and triumphs throughout his life. The author is so clear with his vision, and really takes you on a whirlwind of story! From here on out, I will compare all the other books I read to The Kite Runner. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

One of the best books I have read in a while. Gripping story line while filled with background information on a country and people I know little about.

Wonderful Book
from Milwaukee, WI,  May 23, 2008

This book is one of the best books that I've read in a long time!!! And that is coming from someone who reads about a book a week!! It painted a very vivid image of what (I would assume) Afghanistan was like in the 70¿s, during the Soviet invasion and when they were under the Taliban rule. Beyond that it tells a wonderful story of friendship and family, that anyone from any cultural background and learn and grow from. The full circle of the book makes a wonderful and believable story (I had to remind myself multiple times that it was a fiction book!) I suggested this book for a book club that I am in and have recommended it to everyone I know (readers and non-readers alike). I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who can read!!!

Moving story - A must read for lovers of fiction
from Los Angeles,  Mar 26, 2008

This book is incredible. So moving with richly drawn characters woven into historical events that helped shaped the lives - for the worse and sometimes the better - of Afgans. I can't imagine anyone not being pulled into the story after the first page. I ordered "A Thousand Splendid Suns" before I even finished "The Kite Runner." This guy can really write!

Amazing read
 from TX,  Mar 7, 2008

This is one of those books that you just don't want to put down. It's a quick read but it did take me a while because I couldn't see through the tears. It's tragic, redeeming & well worth the tissues.

Reader's gift
from Penfield, NY,  Feb 9, 2008

I read this book and felt it was an incredible story. So during the holiday rush when the book stores are usually packed, I saw this here on OS and chose to get it for my son to enjoy and read when he wants to escape his busy schedule. The price was that of a discount book store and shipping was free, so I let OS do my shopping for me.

The Kite Runner

I really enjoyed this book. It was good to read and learn about another culture, especially since we hear so much about Afganistan these days. The book was very well written and I had a hard time putting it down.

Kite Runner
from Moreno Valley, Ca,  Feb 5, 2008

I had just finished reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" which was excellent and my daughter had read Kite Runner, written earlier and she had recommended both. Oh my gosh, both ranked up there as the best books I've read. I didn't know much about the Afghan culture or history, and after reading these two books, I know more now. Kite Runner lets you see life through a child's eyes and as as he grows up. This is such an easy read and so well written. I highly recommend.
