Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and moved to the United States in 1980. He is the author of the New York Times bestsellers The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed. He is A U.S. Goodwill Envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency, and the founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a nonprofit that provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

The New York Times bestseller and international classic loved by millions of readers.

The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father's servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption; and an exploration of the power of fathers over sons?their love, their sacrifices, their lies.

A sweeping story of family, love, and friendship told against the devastating backdrop of the history of Afghanistan over the last thirty years, The Kite Runner is an unusual and powerful novel that has become a beloved, one-of-a-kind classic.

  • Too hard for 16 year old

Product good, just too hard for assigned reading for 16 year old boys. Hard to get into, slow, hard for them to relate. My son had a hard time trying to get through a third of this book. I read it and thought it was a good story that the kids should be exposed to, but too hard for average 16 year olds. A simpler version would have been more effective at their age.

  • Read the novel first

I had wanted to read this novel since I heard rave reviews for the original edition. The novel is vividly descriptive of a country and culture many don't understand. What makes the story universal is the friendship of two boys. That friendship is tested on many levels. I won't say too much and that is why I recommend reading the novel before watching the movie based on it.

The product was good, but it took too long to arrive.

  • Another novel-turned-film

but this one's not so bad. It's a good story that lends great insight into a Middle Eastern culture most Americans know nothing about. If nothing else, it helps promote understanding and tolerance. I'm all for that!

  • Very powerful story - was difficult to remember that it is fiction. One of the few books I've read that really stayed in my mind for weeks afterward. Certainly one of my favorite books of all time if not the favorite.
