Bought this as a gift to a vegetarian friend who also tries to eat vegan most of the time. So far she says its a great book, I have yet to try any of the recipes though. Some of the ingredients hard to find in regular stores.

I was very excited to get this book; however, I was disappointed to find that it's not 100% recipes. I wanted a delicious vegan cookbook, but this is a combination of facts, studies, research, etc. AND several recipes. Being a visual person I would have enjoyed more pictures with next to the corresponding recipes then pictures of random "super heroes" or of Alicia (nothing against her, just prefer pictures of food in my cookbook). It is a VERY informative book about the food industry and how food affects our bodies (some similarity to the book "skinny bitch"). Some of it makes you never want to eat again! You read along and feel like Alicia is siting in your kitchen sharing personal food stories and giving you advice. I haven't tried the recipes yet, but I've read them and they sound delicious.
I really liked this book for its approach to vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. I beliveve it is a great introduction because it goes beyond what to eat. I liked Alicia's stories about her conversion and not taking a holier than thou attitude for those not ready to totally commit to a macrobiotic diet. Those who are already vegetarians and/or vegans may find this book to be redundant. I don't know if I I will become a vegan, but I have already incorporated a lot of her suggestions into my diet and I feel better for it. The recipes are really good.
