This handbook provides the reader with a thorough history of banking law and illustrates how today's system of financial regulation is unlike anything else in the world. New and experienced lawyers representing banks need to understand a bank’s specific structure, the importance of capital, and the new language that has formed. A reference list is included with definitions on current “Bank Speak.”

Karol K. Sparks is a partner in the financial institutions group of Barack Ferrazzano, LLP, Chicago, IL. She has counseled banks for over 30 years. She is one of the founders of Banking Law Basics, a three-day primer on banking law, presented twice annually from 1998 through 2011, and is on the faculty of its successor course, Banking Law Fundamentals. Sparks is a frequent lecturer on issues relating to the regulation of financial institutions and an adjunct professor at Wake Forest University School of Law.

Harding de C. Williams has written publications for the former National Council of Savings Institutions and its successor, America's Community Bankers. He was Counsel for the Association of Financial Services Holding Companies and General Counsel for the former National Savings and Loan League. Mr. Williams resides in San Antonio, TX and writes extensively on corporate governance, banking, and accounting issues.
