Leo Gursky taps his radiator each evening to let his upstairs neighbor know he’s still alive. But it wasn’t always like this: in the Polish village of his youth, he fell in love and wrote a book. . . . Sixty years later and half a world away, fourteen-year-old Alma, who was named after a character in that book, undertakes an adventure to find her namesake and save her family. With virtuosic skill and soaring imaginative power, Nicole Krauss gradually draws these stories together toward a climax of “extraordinary depth and beauty” (Newsday).

    • His Story of Love

In spite of my 5 star rating, there are 2 negatives: 1) Familiarity with Jewish culture helps; occasionally there is an explanation. 2) In general, each chapter starts with a one of the characters narrating in first person. For this reader it required a paragraph or three to determine who was speaking -- An unnecessary complication. With those two caveats, I loved this book, especially the beginning and end. I enjoyed the chapters after I figured who was speaking. Want to learn about angels? Want to learn if you or parts of you are made of glass? Read the book. I'm giving it three friends.
