I teach high school English and will show this DVD as a complement to our study of Fitzgerald's novel. The film is gorgeous, and most of the dialogue comes right from the novel. It's a story that never fails to make me swoon several hundred times, and the movie captures the era and the characters so beautifully.
A beautiful film with great music and costuming. A treat in every way. But it wouldn't be quite as great without Sam Waterston narrating as Nick Carraway. The film is faithful to the F. Scott Fitzgerald book, even the dialogue.
As a high school English teacher, this is a great supplemental tool to follow up the novel with.
I missed reading the "Great Gatsby" in high school, but I'd always wondered about it. When I saw Overstock had it, I decided to give it a try. I had no idea what to expect, as I've never really heard anything about this movie, but I've loved any movie Robert Redford has been in, so I bought it. This movie's ability to immerse one in the 1920's era is amazing. I loved watching every minute of it, until the pool scene at the end, as I didn't think it would actually happen. For those of you who haven't seen it, you'll have to watch it to find out--like I did! Overall it was a wonderfully made movie, but the story line threw me for a loop! I will definitely watch this movie again--just give me a little time to recover!
