I could not put this book down. I had not heard of it before I first saw it on a search for autobiographies on O.com. I am so glad I purchased it. It was a fabulous story. Not one I will soon forget. A must read for biography and autobiography fans such as myself.
You must read this book!!! I couldnt stop reading it!
This book is a terrific read and a must have. What a wonderfully written true story. It was enjoyable from the first page to the last.
Very different and interesting book. Makes you think!
This was one of the best books I have ever read. Kudos to Jeannette Walls for surviving the dysfunction and making something of herself. I would highly recommend...very easy reading.
This is an excellent read for anyone who has had a disfunctional family life or known someone who has. It really helps put life into perspective.
This book is absolutely stunning to read and it came quickly to!
I read this book a couple years ago and bought it as a Christmas gift for a fellow English teacher. People have very specific reactions to it.

This is one of the best books I can remember ever reading. So happy I purchased it. My older daughter read it all in one night! You have to get it (and no, I'm not related to the author in any way!)
Jeannette Walls also wrote half broken horses- a true life novel which enhances what you will have read in The Glass Castle. Read both starting with The Glass Castle. I love her wit and candor. I Couldn't put either down and wished she had wriiten more.
This book was a quick read and mildly entertaining. Although I feel for the way the kids in this family were raised, the author uses a very simplistic writing style for her story. There is no "flow" to the book and the story of her childhood is choppy and lacks emotion. It's interesting and can be read over a weekend.
This is perhaps my lifetime-favorite book, an utterly amazing true story of both the best and worst of the human spirit. I have given away perhaps 12 copies and every person who's received it has loved it and been amazed by the story. Must-read!
This is a riveting true story, poignantly written, a must-read. I read the book several years ago and purchased as a gift for my sister-in-law when it was released in paperback. I will read Jeannette Walls' latest book.
This is a wonderfully written book. I am not sure what made me buy this book and read it, but I was so glad I did. It will give you a whole new perspective on the parent/child relationship and how one child learned to accept her parents. I love this story because it teaches us that not all homeless people are lazy, drug addicts. Some live in a world far beyond anything we can comprehend. Sadly, their children pay the price for their parents odd behavior. I would recommend this book to any one who loves a good, well written story about overcoming advesity and circumstance.
I read the book in two days, could not put it down. Very well written.
As you read about Jeannette Walls' life through her poignant, yet almost child-like in its matter-of-factness prose, it is hard to believe someone who went through what she has in her life could create such a readable memoir. You pity her when she does not pity herself, and you root for her to get away from her crazy though loving parents. This one is hard to put down.
One of my favorite books ever! Sort of an American version of Angela's Ashes, but, more interesting, much better written and much more fun to read.
The author did a very good job of describing her disfunctional growing up years without being judjmental. She wrote in a very matter-of-fact way and yet you could feel the emotion in her story.
Ms. Walls writes a stunning autobiography. We may be moved to pity her circumstances, but her triumph over her parent's will (or lack thereof), and the cultivation of her own ambition make for a beautiful story.
