Description:

Swedish journalist Stieg Larsson penned the Millennium trilogy, which finally lands on American shores with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. It`s the story of a financial journalist who agrees to investigate a 40-year-old kidnapping in exchange for help with his legal woes. The journalist teams up with a rebellious but savvy young computer hacker, and together the unlikely duo unravel the horrifying, shocking truth at the heart of the case. A complex, intelligent work, Larson`s novel became so popular in Denmark that it outsold the Bible. Larsson, however, never got to witness the success of his books, for he died shortly after completing the series.

    • Dragon Book

Good book. Slow start but relevant to the plot. Excellent character development, and well paced, enough different types of subject material to make the book one to make you think about the issues beyond the book.

    • sadly

I had read a lot of hype about this book. I got. Left it untouched for a few weeks. (It was hard). The book doesn't grab you immediatly. About a quarter of the way thru the book I was on-line trying to get the second book. By then, I realized he had written three books and died. His style of writing is different and wonderful. I have the second book. I am not starting it, because then it will be over. I think I will wait til the third book is out .This is not a review of the books, but a sad tale that there will be no more.

THIS EXCELLENT MYSTERY IS BEING DISCUSSED AT MY AUGUST BOOK CLUB MEETING. THE CHARACTERS, ESPECIALLY SALANDER, THE FEMALE INVESTIGATOR, ARE CLEARLY DRAWN.I LOVED THE LOCAL DESCRIPTIONS. THEIR 7-11'S ARE NAMED "KONSUM."

  • Starred ReviewWith its rich characterizations and intriguing plot, the first book of the late Stieg Larsson's completed trilogy, involving disgraced Swedish journalist-publisher Mikael Blomkvist and the eponymous, pierced and tattooed, emotionally troubled young hacker-investigator Lisbeth Salander, clearly deserves the acclaim it's received overseas. Martin Wenner's almost indifferent, British-accented narration would seem an odd choice for a novel filled with passion, sex and violence, but as the oddly coupled Blomkvist and Salander probe the four-decade-old disappearance of Harriet Vanger, heiress to one of Sweden's wealthiest clans, the objective approach actually accentuates the extreme behavior of both and the strange subjects of their investigation. Wenner's calm, controlled manner aids the listener in keeping track of the numerous members of the Vanger family, a task that the printed book simplifies with a reference page.
