Invaluable Resource
I had heard about this book several years ago but never got around to buying it. Now I wish I'd bought it back then. I called off my engagement and bought this book for both of us. Now we're realizing the many places we went wrong and we saw our own relationship in many of the examples Dr. Chapman uses. We are on the road to reconciliation and I feel much more confident in what we're doing after reading this book. It's a life saver, buy it now!!

Still valuable, despite the biblical stuff.
This book is a tad too preachy and biblically centric, but that does not detract from its over-all value in terms of understanding relationship interplay. I have given away copies of this book, in spite of the bible references, merely because it has a valuable and easy to quantify structure for determining how one interacts with others, expecially in intimate (love, friendships) relationships. The five languages are: Gifts, Acts of Service, Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, and Physical Touch. It helped me determine my own situations and has helped countless friends of mine as well. I would recommend it, with the codicile that it is a little too quick to refer to religious references when none is needed to convey the basic wisdom the book offers. Without the biblical focus, I'd give it five stars overall.

A must read for couples
This book was very insightful for my husband and myself. Though we already knew in a sense what made each other tick when it comes to love, it was nice to have some one spell it out in a way that we could have the other understand. There is a quiz at the end for each person to take that let's you know what your love language is and after taking this we read together each other's language. It will be somewhat hard to begin focussing on what makes my spouse feel loved, but this book sparked my mind and our relationship will truely benifit. I would reccomend this for newly weds and couples who have been married for years.

Helpful
The book is written in a plain style, which makes it really simple to read. I have read other reviews (on other websites) that complained about the use of scriptures, so if you are offended by a Christian perspective, don't buy it. I found it helpful in my relationship almost immediately! The ideas are easy to grasp and he gives you concrete examples.

This book is essential for all marriages: new, old, happy, troubled... This is an eye-opening way of looking at the ways we express our love to our mate. It's incredible! Get 2 copies... you'll want to give one to a friend after you read it!

great self help book
I really got a lot out of this book. I am passing it on to a friend as well. Gives a concise overview of communication/love styles and leads to deeper intimacy and stronger relationships.
