Description:
THE DOG LISTENER is an excellent guide for pet owners who want to train their dogs in a non-violent, supportive way that encourages companionship and willing cooperation. Jan Fennell's experience with dog training grew out of her own negative experiences with difficult dogs. After a trusted family pet caused injury to both her young children, she had the dog put down and almost immediately regretted the decision. Fennell now recognizes that the dog needed to be re-trained to be subordinate to its human master and that the fault lay in miscommunication between dog and guardian. Communication is the key to Fennel's work. In THE DOG LISTENER she gives visual guides to understand and appreciate a dog's natural communicative abilities. Fennell gives specific instructions on a variety of problems that trouble dogs and their owners, such as separation anxiety, nervous aggression, and biting. Her training suggestions are direct and can be implemented immediately. Fennell illustrates her technique with anecdotes from her 30 years of experience as a trainer and breeder, and dozens of color photographs of her favorite dogs. Monty Roberts, author of THE MAN WHO LISTENS TO HORSES and is known as the real-life Horse Whisperer, wrote the forward for the book and is credited as Fennel's inspiration and role model.

Absolutely terrific! I have many dogs and have read so many books, but this one is perhaps the best for training because her methods work WITH nature rather than against it. It works!Great book!
