- Description:
- Originally released as 2 separate albums, CHRISTMAS PORTRAIT and AN OLD-FASHIONED CHRISTMAS.
The Carpenters: Karen Carpenter, Richard Carpenter.
Producers: Richard Carpenter, Jack Daugherty, Karen Carpenter.
Reissued concurrently with the delayed issue of Karen Carpenter`s solo album, this import CD contains both Carpenters Christmas records, 1978`s CHRISTMAS PORTRAIT and 1984`s AN OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS. Both albums are remastered and appear in their entirety on CD for the first time.
Purists should note that the 1984 release was completed after Karen`s 1982 death and is comprised of outtakes from the 1978 recording sessions and instrumental performances (including selections from The Nutcracker Suite) performed by Richard Carpenter. Highlights of the set include traditional hymns and carols, Christmas pop standards and other seasonal tunes. Perhaps the set`s highlight is Karen`s wistful yet sultry rendition of Johnny Mercer`s "What Are You Doing New Year`s Eve?"

Customer Reviews
This is a must have for everyone at Christmas. My favorite on here is Santa Clause is Coming to Town. She has such a sultry voice and it makes this typically fun song, very romantic. The music on the CD is great and there are songs that should be treasured on this CD that did not get a lot of air play. A must have!!!

Too much orchestra, not enough Karen Carpenter, the arrrangements also were disappointing, best on prior listening to other recordings these seemed week and offkey (it wasn't my DVD player, other CDs were fine)
I purchased the Collection for my husband for Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and excellence of the content of the Collection. I would highly recommend this set to anyone to add to their Christmas CDs.

This is the Christmas music I grew up with. The songs are classic, the singers have beautiful voices, and there is a nice mix of instrumental music as well. The best part is, you get two great CDs for pretty much the price of one. If you don't have this in your collection, make sure you do by next Christmas!

I CANNOT live without the Carpenters' Christmas music. I listened to it on those "fiirst snowfall" days as a little girl, while decorating the tree, and while my parents were out Christmas shopping---It is as much a part of CHRISTMAS for me as the tree, the celebrations, and the joy of the season! It's not Christmas until I can hear this music!!!!
