This musical has fine music, with songs that should be familiar to to many, and enjoyable acting, with Irene Dunne, Randolph Scott, Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers. It has been remade under another titke, but this is a fun movie, as it is.
This movie starts off slow (by today's standards) but the exposition of human emotions and great acting towards the end make it well worth the wait! The film does a tremendous job of very subtely, yet effectively, piling woes on to the main character until he gets to the end where one kind act completely breaks him down. It's a beautiful character study and I would recommend it to anyone. I would also suggest this film as a good companion to Dead Poet's Society if you liked that film.
