This video is most entertaining and colorful! You don't need to know how to dance or anything about bollywood to quickly learn the steps and enjoy it. But don't let it fool you, you will definitely work up a sweat! There's a good bit of bouncing and jumping that is fundamental in many segments, so if you have trouble with your knees this may not be the best option. Overall, I really love this workout/dance video. For someone who knows I should exercise but doesn't always want to or have the time, this ~50 minute video puts me in a happy mood and makes it fun (and sexy/feminine) to exercise. Yes, this video is highly female-power oriented. I give this video a perfect "entertainment value" rating, but it would be even better if there were more than one routine or dance step variations included in the video (after several viewings I feel the need to skip some days in order to avoid the "same routine workout rut"). There are bonus performances on the dvd, but these are really for viewing only - no instruction and formatted to look more like a dance video than an exercise routine.
The video is very colorful and definitely different than any other work out video. However, it would have been way better if the instructor could have spent a little more time, on the exact dance steps. But it is a load of fun and you do get quite a work out. I am hoping that I get better with the steps, with time.
The style of instruction is very loose and I found myself just sort of jumping around to the music instead of strictly following instructions. The queing is sooo late and the gals look goofy at times, but the music is fun and I love the visual style. This DVD won't be a mainstay in my fitness routine, but something for me to pop in when I want some fun.
The instructor isn't perfectly sculpted, her assistants aren't perfect at the moves, and they aren't all perfectly in sync with each other...but that's what I kind of like about it. It's almost a free-for-all. You just kind of feel the moves and "groove to your own beat". The instructor said you won't be able to help but smile-and as much as I hate to admit it, she was right. You just get sort of goofy attempting the moves, feeling the music, and flailing yourself around. It is a good dance video if you aren't very coordinated, because coordination isn't exactly necessary. There is a lot of jumping around involved so apartment dwellers be forewarned.
