  • This Book really has given me peace

I would recommend this book to anyone who either thinks that their child might be ADD, depressed or Bi-polar. This book has finally given me peace. My 7 year old daughter has been struggling with her behavior her whole life. If I had only been given this book when she was 2 or 3, our lives would be very different now. But it is not too late, this book is helping me to better understand my daughter and her behavior. To allow those hurt feelings to be healed. My family to start to mend, and most importantly, give me hope for her future. I say anyone who either thinks their child could be, or who already has the diagnosis's above, should read this book. It talks about a lot of misdiagnosing of children, and that they really should be treated for bipolar before going on ADD or anti depressants. Please read this book! Submitted by : Mother of 2 wonderful children.

  • Very Informative

This book is basically easy to read and gives solid information. I would recommend it for any parent who suspects their child might be bipolar.

  • Demitri, associate professor of psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and his wife, Janice (authors of Overcoming Depression), present a comprehensive view of early-onset bipolar disorder, focusing on how this complicated illness evolves in children. The authors warn that nearly one-third of children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may actually be bipolar (previously called manic depression), and they stress the importance of getting early diagnosis and treatment-especially since ritalin, which is commonly prescribed for ADHD, may worsen the bipolar child's condition. The authors dispel the myth that bipolar disorder occurs only in adolescents and adults and note that cases of bipolar disorder are increasingly occurring at a younger age. While the book sounds several alarms, it also offers support to parents (Demitri is the adviser for an online support group for parents of bipolar children, from which the authors culled much of their anecdotal information). In addition to diagnosis and treatment, the authors discuss practical ways to deal with the condition itself, as well as the impact it has on the entire family. This is an important guide for parents seeking ways to cope with this potentially devastating disorder. (Dec.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
