This is the first in the extremely popular series about the unlucky Baudelaire siblings--Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. Their story begins when their parents perish in a fire, and from there they must deal with (among other horrors) itchy clothing, a money-grubbing distant relative, and even a strange, repulsive odor. In this darkly comic story, the Baudelaire children must rely on their wits, and each other, in order to survive. Illustrated with occasional Gothic-style B&W drawings.

I bought the Lemony Snicket audio CDs for a long driving trip and it was really a great idea. Tim Curry was wonderful!
