HELLO CRUEL WORLD is a 1987 compilation gathering the entirety of Chris Knox and Alex Bathgate`s first four EPs as the Tall Dwarfs: THREE SONGS (1981), LOUIS LIKES HIS DAILY DIP (1982), CANNED MUSIC (1983), and SLUGBUCKET HAIRYBREATH MONSTER (1984). As such, it is the defining document of the early days of this quirky New Zealand duo, with their lo-fi, experimental pop songs at their most basic and stripped-down. Highlights include "Pictures on the Floor" and "The Brain That Wouldn`t Die."
