Although the subscription was ordered and paid for several weeks, I have yet to receive the first magazine. However, Overstock wanted it rated now. Therefore any rating I give is based on previous subscriptions, six or seven years worth. Sothwest Art is an over priced magazine. They have streched coverage to include articles from way outside the Southwest which is quite disappointing and seems to have been more of their trend the past three or four years. There are more south western artist whose work deserves recognition then the magazine could cover in a life time, buty it seems they publish whatever the independant writer throws at them, in lieu stipulating they buy only articles on SW art. As you can tell, I don't have a great desire to have seascapes, Civil War, Japanesse, Russian, European, African, Chinesse, etc in a Magazine claiming it is Southwestern art. If I prefered the other type art, I'd search out magazines covering such. Why do I subscribe? The magazine does carry some articles and photo layouts of SW artist I enjoy reading about. It does provide more coverage of SW art then other magazines. They do a good job of listing upcoming events and gallery shows. There are two other magazines covering western art now competing with Southwest for subscribers. It will be interestings in a couple years to see who ends up being the premier magazine for SW art. But for now, Southwest Art is the best you'll get.
