I purchased a different brand Blu-Ray player, 2 years ago. It seemed to work fine, until it was 2 years old, then it started having issues. It could play a movie for only about 15 minutes at a time. I then had to power the system off and start again, up to 8 times, to complete a whole movie.
I decided to purchase a new BluRay player, but wanted wireless internet this time. I compared a Sony vs others and with the recent issues I had with my current player, I chose Sony. After deciding on a BluRay player, I realized I could get the PS3 for approx $20 more. Even though I have Wii already, it seemed to make sense to spend the extra $20.
Since my purchase approx 45 days ago, I have nothing but great things to say about the PS3 as a BluRay player. Quick disc load times and easy connection to internet for BD-live. I also purchased the optional BluRay remote control and a 2 year warranty. I'm hoping I don't have to use the warranty, but better safe than sorry.
