Two weeks before Erykah Badu issued her stellar New Amerykah, Pt. 1: 4th World War, the faceless and nameless Smooth Jazz All-Stars issued the Erykah Badu Smooth Sax Tribute, with a loose mock up of the cover from her Mama`s Gun album. Interestingly enough, "Honey," a cover of the untitled single from Amerykah opens the entire set. Cool enough. You already know what this sounds like: meatier-and-beatier-than-Kenny G versions of Badu`s hits. It`s an excellent listen, perfect for driving or background music. The grooves are tight enough without being suffocating, the melodies are pronounced in order to keep the saxophones way up front, and even the drum loops don`t get in the way. For what it is, and for the price, this is a pleasant if inessential listen. ~ Thom Jurek

GOOD CD
I LOVE ERYKAH BADU'S STYLE AND ALL OF HER MUSIC. I PURCHASED ANOTHER CD WHICH IS BY HIDDEN BEACH & IT HAS ALL THE SONGS I LIKE BUT W/ A -GROWN FOLKS- FEEL..ITS ALL JAZZ . I WAS SOOO EXCITED TO GET THE E.B. CD, AND I DID RECEIVE IT VERY QUICKLY. HOWEVER, THE ONLY THING THAT I WAS DISAPPOINTED W/ IS THAT THEY USE THE SAX AS THE MAIN INSTRUMENT. SEEING AS THOUGH I AM A GUITAR PERSON, IT WAS A SMALL LET DOWN. BUT I STILL BUST IT WHILE RIDIN'!!!!
