Texas-based blues guitarist "Smokin`" Joe Kubek cut his musical teeth performing in bands with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Freddie King. His fluid, lyrical guitar playing, which shows the influence of both these musicians as well as that of Jimi Hendrix, propels his hard-rocking band through this collection of straight-ahead, down-home blues on cuts like the snaky "TV Light" and the incendiary "Texas Cadillac." His partnership with the Louisiana singer Bnois King (no relation to either Freddie or B.B.) is a mutually beneficial meeting of complementary musical talents--King`s smooth, assured vocals are a perfect foil for Kubek`s smartly constructed solos--while instrumental tracks like "Corn Palace" give this fretboard wizard ample room to stretch out.
