Recorded live in Boston in 1985, this is the real deal; Sleepy LaBeef and his band log thousands of miles a month, playing roadhouses across the country. The second number, "Boogie at the Wayside Lounge" (a rare LaBeef original), is over eight minutes of unfiltered boogie, where LaBeef`s commanding voice recounts a tale over a relentless band that`s chomping at the bit to break loose.
Though he has recorded singles dating back to the `50s, LaBeef always seemed more at home on stage than in the studio, but he hit his stride with albums that followed this offering such as I`LL NEVER LAY MY GUITAR DOWN and STRANGE THINGS ARE HAPPENING. The band flies without a net, following its fearless leader with confidence and daring, notably when he introduces a Webb Pierce chestnut by announcing that the band has never done it before, then lets them know what key it`s in. Throughout, LaBeef`s deep and rich baritone is a force of daunting magnitude.
