I love this new DVD from Shiva Rea! She is wonderful in her sequencing and the variety of asana is great. The DVD has customizable workout sections, which allows a lot of flexibility in creating a workout. . I won't get bored with this one!
This is a very nice video. Lots of choices, with the yoga matrix, I can't see getting bored with this any time soon. Definitely for a fairly experienced yogi though...instruction isn't great, and I found myself having to stop several times to look at the screen. Shiva would change the pose, or start doing something completely different without any verbal instruction. This made it hard for me to really sink into my practice. I think once I learn the video a little better it won't be a problem though. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Her flexibility is a little intimidating - but it just pushes me harder. All in all, I would definitely recommend this to a friend...in fact, I already have!

I have been trying to practice yoga the cheapest way possible- with the videos. I am not a yoga officionado, but I have taken enough classes that I feel I can follow learn from and gain from doing the videos. 1) I found this video a little difficult to follow without my eyes on the screen, but I feel that could be remedied by watching it all the way through and "getting" her style better. 2) Shiva R's style of yoga is different from what I am used to. She doesn't just ask you to do and hold or "move through" the poses, but she asks you to stay in the poses and let your body "flow" in them- moving your lower body, arms, waist, etc by rolling or waving in whatever way you are inspired to do. She then moves through the next few poses and pauses again in a pose and asks you to roll, etc. again. 2) At first this was a bit irritating as I wanted to DO YOGA (I have several Baron Baptiste videos), but once I got through a few moves I felt something DIFFERENT coming into my practice- I was tapping into that flowing, rolling, waving energy that I used to enjoy as a kid! I was using my body in ways that I haven't in YEARS- who just sits there on all 4s rolling their ribs, waist, hips and shoulders? 3) This video asks you to personalize your practice through incorporating your own way to "be" in a pose with this inspired movement component. It was incredible! 4) You can pick and choose a "class" based on what energy level you are trying to reach: energizing, relaxing, etc. and do as much or as little as you want because there are several sessions of various lengths. I would recommend this video to anyone ready for something new or burning out on traditional yoga!
I recently returned from my honeymoon and discovered that I'd left this dvd in the player in the home that we rented in Curacao! (Yes, I brought it on my honeymoon and my husband and I used it for morning practice)! I have literally hundreds of workout dvds, about half of them are yoga, and I am also a certified yoga instructor. I'm re-purchasing this dvd now a week after being home, because I miss it so much - that's how much I enjoy it. Shiva's approach to the traditional poses is unique and refreshing, and I especially like how the dvd allows users to customize the practice by segments.
