BRIGHT EYES: Little orphan Shirley Temple gets in the middle of a nasty custody battle in BRIGHT EYES, one of Temple's first and best movies, most famous for the song "On the Good Ship Lollipop." REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM: Allan Dwan re-teams with Shirley Temple in this adaptation of the children's classic, which shares nothing with the well-known story except its title. After a nationwide search to find a Little Miss Universe, cereal mogul Cyrus Bartlett (Paul Harvey) hears the voice of an eight-year-old girl, Rebecca Winstead (Shirley Temple), and tells ad executive Tony Kent (Randolph Scott) that she's the girl he wants. But when the announcer mistakenly tells the girl that her audition is over, Rebecca's stepfather Henry Kipper (William Demarest), leaves the studio with her. Since they've just been evicted from their hotel, he leaves her with her Aunt Miranda (Helen Westley) at Sunnybrook Farm. Realizing the mistake, Tony goes into a tailspin. While in the country, Rebecca bumps into Tony, who has never seen her, and happens to own the adjoining property. Tony's announcer soon arrives, telling him that he's been unable to find the girl with the voice. But when Tony happens to be talking on the phone to Bartlett while Rebecca is singing in the background, they realize they've found their Little Miss Universe. Temple is at her energetic best in this wholesomely entertaining film, which features a fine supporting cast, including Gloria Stuart of TITANIC fame.

    This was a Birthday Present for a 5 year old girl who Dances Very Well. These Shirley Temple movies are New to her. I remembered watching these movies in a theater when I was a child and always loved them. Shirley was a very talented child. The recipient of this gift is also very talented, so I thought she would enjoy seeing Shirlty Temple Dance- - - and indeed she did Love watching them. She still watches them on week-ends. She wants Shirley Temple dresses and Blond hair. Her own hair is dark. Her parents are from India. I thought of it more as a Cultural exchange. My beautiful little neighbor has Never had a dancing lesson. Still she picks up new rhythms as though she was born to them.
