If you grew up on Sesame Street and loved their old skits, you will love this set of DVD's. I bought one and after watching it bought 3 more for gifts. Besides the usual songs you can find on CD's (C is for cookie), there are a lot of old favorites and others I didn't remember until I saw them. Each disk contains two episodes, one from each of the first four seasons. Each disk also includes bonus items that are popular. Here are some of my favorites that are on these disks. "One two, two ittle dolls" Doll house song where the kittens enter from the windows and knock everything down, Big Bird meets Snuffleupagus, Great Cookie Theif, People in your neighborhood, Ernie counts sheep, Bert can't sleep and Ernie turns on more noises to cover up the other loud noises, King of Eight, Astronaut drawing, I love being a pig, Martians telephone, Amazing Mumford, Alligator King, Would you like to buy an "o", Breathing song, I in the sky, "a loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter", Jon-Jon, Twiddlebugs go to the Zoo, Cookies 3 wishes, SAM the robot, and many more. Also are visits from: Jackie Robinson, Bill Cosby, Carol Burnett, Jesse Jackson, and Johnny Cash. Very much worth the money.!!! I can't wait for the next volume to come out!!!
Although there are several disks included in this package, I feel it is expensive for what is included. For example, I have noticed that a lot of clips from the "Ole School" packages are now being incorporated into the the new Sesame Street programs. So I would recommend purchasing a cheaper Sesame Street and yet receive the same programming. I should specify that it is the animated parts and the muppets that have been incorporated. The people have not been incorporated in as most are still on the show, just older as we all are. I would like to see Miss Piggy and Kermit back on Sesame. Even in these "Ole School" versions they are not present that much! They are oldies but goodies, just as Big Bird, The Count etc are. I have both volumes of "Ole School" and very disappointed in them. If you want to see Mr. Hooper again or see the cast in their younger years, by all means purchase these volumes. If you are wanting to see Kermit and other muppets more, just be aware they are rarely seen.
I bought this for my husband because he has been taling about wanting to see sesame street episodes in the past. He enjoyed the movie, but there are spots when it is very slow. The dvd gives you a lot to look back on and say, "I remember this". There are also facts within the dvd and booklet that gives you information you may not have known about the original cast and characters. I would not recommend it for a younger crowd, because my two year old son would not pay attention to it due to the fact that it is very dark in color.
These videos show just how wonderful and creative the early Sesame Street years were. Like the series, I debuted in 1969 and grew up on the series. Watching the early episodes was like opening dusty doors in my mind back to my childhood. I was amazed at how many of these songs and skits were still lurking in my memory. Great fun for all.
