  • For the scifi fan!

If you have a scifi fan in the family, this is a great gift!

  • Good read, not as deep

The book was alright. I felt a little let down simply because I figure if machines had enough intelligence and power to organize an offensive, they would have destroyed more people than they actually did. I felt it was going to be as realistic as possible, but it wasn't very. No mention of diseases running rampant (as they should be with bombed hospitals and dead doctors), for example, just wounds eventually attended to by reformed robots. The details of life after this sort of catastrophe were missing, in short, and I would have liked to hear about them to be more absorbed in the story itself. having said that, it still is interesting and I like how several characters eventually crossed paths. I didn't care too much for a particular part of the ending. Left me wondering.

  • Roboticist Wilson (How to Survive a Robot Uprising) turns to fiction with this bland and derivative series of connected vignettes describing a rebellion by humanity's robot helpers. Looking back on the war, Cormac Wallace, soldier in the human resistance, offers portentous framing commentary for recordings taken by evil computer program Archos. Many of the accounts were obtained under torture or other extreme circumstances, yet the narrators are curiously devoid of feeling ("As I watch my blood smearing behind me on the tile floor, I think, shit, man, I just mopped that") as domestic robots kill, soldier robots go haywire, airplanes attempt to collide, people fight to survive, and a resistance forms. Steven Spielberg has optioned the property; perhaps the melodrama will play better on the screen than it does on the page. (June) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.
