After Robert Pollard`s Fading Captain Series finally faded, the former Guided By Voices mastermind launched a new label, Prom Is Coming, in 2007, and designated the seven-track SILVERFISH TRIVIA as its first release. As with all things Pollard, the set presents jangly guitar-driven rock and willfully strange lyrics, but here the proceedings are generally more subdued than past outings, revealing a kinder, gentler Uncle Bob. Book-ended by string-laden instrumentals "Come Outside" and "Speak in Many Colors," TRIVIA features the melancholy "Circle Saw Boys Club," which, unlike much of GBV`s material, never rises to a Who-like crescendo, and serves as a nice counterpoint to the sprawling "Cats Love a Parade."
