Raw Food Basics for Newbies
from Tallahassee, FL.,  Oct 1, 2007

This is a very basic, "how-to" book. Jennifer Cornbleet explains what equipment to use in your kitchen, what staples to have on hand, and even a weekly shopping list. She provides a guide to soaking nuts and seeds; how to store, ripen, and clean produce; the qualities of different cutting boards, how to select and care for knives; the uses of blenders, juicers, and food processors; even how to follow recipes and measure ingredients. While these things may be obvious to most people, this book makes it EASY for beginners. Jennifer has whittled down these recipes for people like me - a single person living alone. The ingredients are easy to find in local stores, I already had most of the recommended equipment and, best of all, I don't have to cook anything (although each chapter provides suggestions if you want to add cooked foods to a meal). The most surprising recipe, so far, is the Chocolate Mousse. She uses avocado to replace the standard butter, cream, and eggs. People I've shared this with had no idea it was totally made from raw foods. My only complaint about this book is that the delicious looking photos of some of the dishes are nowhere near the actual recipe. It would've been nice to insert the photo on the page opposite the recipe. This "cook" book will be open MUCH more than others I've had for years. And, hey, if I decide to take raw food to the extreme, I can eat the book.

Nice book for the Beginner Raw Foody
from Plattsburgh NY,  May 14, 2011

This is a good book for a beginner raw foody. It is full of simple mainly four ingredient meals based on one or two people. Would not recommend if you are looking to feed more than one or two people. The recipes don't convert like you would think. Like another review highly recommend the avocado chocolate mousse. If anything it was worth the price for that recipe. Even my kids like it and they don't know they are eating avocados. All in all a good beginners book.

Very Good!
from Jacksonville, FL,  Jan 4, 2008

This book is very informative but is mostly recipes. They are pretty simple and straight forward. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is new to the raw food lifestyle.
