Excellent film in two versions, which are practically identical as far as cinematography and scripting. Both have excellent production values. Probably the reason they did a remake was that the 1937 version was not in color, but that is not a major issue with fans of classic movies. Overall, this movie is a fine choice of a clean action film of times past, with no "fashionable" vulgarity or profane innuendo. What a breath of fresh air from the past!
I was disappointed with the video quality of the films (especially the 1937 version; I have seen a better version on Turner Classic Movies). I already had the laserdisc version of both films, and was hoping that the DVD version would be better, but unfortunatelly the studio did not bother to remaster the films. Both films (the 1952 remake is almost identical to the 1937 version) are highly entertaining and the price for the DVD was very reasonable.
