Mini-Series vs. Movie
Anonymous  from California,  May 10, 2006

I've read Jane Austin?s Pride & Prejudice, seen the A&E mini-series with Colin Firth (love him!) and I've now seen Pride & Prejudice 2005. This is going to be a comparative between the mini-series and the movie. First of all, I think it is important to note that the mini-series is approx. five hours long and the movie is approx. half that. This provides the mini-series with an advantage. The mini-series is SO true to the book in just about every realm. One has a chance to get to know the characters thoroughly and fall in love with Mr. Darcy right along with Lizzy. However, there is one major thing missing from the mini-series that the movie possessed: PASSION! Colin Firth's portrayal of Mr. Darcy was bar none, but the young lady who played Lizzy (cannot recall her name at the moment) lacked the passion to meet him in the middle. Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfayden were by far breathtaking in their portrayals of each character. I was left breathless many times by the slight looks given by Matthew Macfayden and received by Keira Knightly. The passion of the 2005 movie version is undeniable! However, be aware that Hollywood did what Hollywood does best: Fluffed it up and made it their own. The mini-series version is so deep and involved with the original story line that it is totally engrossing. However, the movie version brings the story to life with the passion and resonance that Ms. Austin intended. I would recommend watching both. The mini-series for the depth of character development and strict storyline and the movie for the passion and moral awareness that this story was meant portray.

Pride and Prejudice
from Cental Florida,  May 19, 2007

The absolute best movie. I can't stop watching it. I love the chemistry between Lizzy and Mr. Darcy. My knees go weak when hers does. And I feel his pain when she rejects him. And the more I watch it, the more I am totally in LOVE with Matthew MacFadyen. If you are out there, and a woman...you have to watch this movie. It's by far the best EVER!!! Why don't they make more movies like this.

Not Colin Firth
from Baltimore, MD,  Mar 6, 2010

Do not buy this DVD if you haven't seen the film before. The screenplay deviates from the original story (this is not the A&E version). That said, this film offers much more than Austen's witty word play. This production cuts out all the so so parts, which you may have skipped reading anyway, and gets right down to Darcey and Elizabeth surrounding them with breathtaking backgrounds to enhance the drama. Plus being a Keira Knigjhtley fan doesn't hurt either.

A perfect love story
from Newark, NJ,  Jan 29, 2008

A true lover of Jane Austen's books and The Pride and Prejudice top all her books. Keira Knightly delivers a masterpiece performance of all time. My family resembles the Bennet family in behavior, but i have more brothers than sisters. I strongly recommend this romantic movie.

Who's Proud? Who's Prejudice?
 from Washington,  Jan 29, 2008

I was pleasantly surprised at the recent adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Mind you, I have watched the Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth many times over and was very concerned that I wouldn't enjoy this new version. I was afraid that they might have pushed things too far, but...well, you must watch it and see for yourself!

WHAT A SURPRISE!!
from Apopka, Fl,  Oct 10, 2007

SOMETIMES, CLASSICS CAN BE STUFFY AND BORING, NO SO WITH THIS MOVIE! I LOVE THIS VERSION SO MUCH, I'VE WATCHED IT OVER AND OVER! IT'S A JOY TO WATCH WITH JUST A HINT OF ROMANTIC JESTURES, THAT IT MAKES ME MELT EVERYTIME I SEE IT! THE SCENERY IS BREATHTAKING AND YOU'LL PLAY THE MUSIC OVER IN YOUR HEAD OFTEN! THIS IS ONE I'M SO HAPPY I DIDN'T MISS!

Great
from Santa Maria CA,  Jun 6, 2007

This is a great modern remake of the original pride and prejudice. I have seen several different versions and this is a great remake with a more modern look. Some scene removed from the original story to shorten the movie but otherwise great movie for a night with you and your significant other to sit down and enjoy.

My new favorite film
from Rhode Island,  May 22, 2007

Wonderful, simply a magnificent film!! The acting is impeccable, the direction and cinematography is charming and involving. I have very rarely seen a film done so well. Frequently a novel will inspire me to see a movie, but never has a movie inspired me to read a novel, until I saw this piece. Kudos to everyone involved in the production!!

Wow...Romance is Back
from Big Spring, TX,  Feb 7, 2007

Yes. Romance is back. Keira Knightley couldn't be better in this movie. She is so sharp & seems to naturally play this part. I never generally think this way, but you can actually FEEL the passion between her & Mr. Darcy. This movie takes your breath away. I have personally never read the book, but this movie makes me want to. In my area of Texas, movies are 20-25$, so this overstock price is excellent. I would absolutely recommend this movie to any romance loving friend.
