    • Period Book

An excellent book, very informative and a wonderful way to teach young girls about the changes that will take place with their bodies and other aspects of becoming a teen/woman. Mothers should read it first to decide what age their child should be to read this.

    • Glad I bought it

This book is informative and tasteful, speaking to the reader on their level. Got it for my ten year old daughter who dislikes having "those conversations" with Mom. Good buy.

    • Helps an awkward time.

Helps introduce the concepts of growing up to pre- teens. I got the book for a ten year old and just answer any questions she has about the text. The illustrations are cute. The book helps open up conversations regarding topics girls need to know about from a reliable source.

    • Great refresher course

I purchased this book for my ten yr old because I vividly recall my first menstrual cycle and not being informed as to what process was going on with my body I vowed that I would make sure my dtr had the correct information so as not to feel confused and embarrassed and this book clearly meets those goals. I even found myself at 34 learning new things . Great purchase.

  • With the help of her 15-year-old niece, Karen Gravelle hits her mark with this accessible guide for adolescent girls. Frank and at times funny, the book focuses on changes that occur during puberty, specifically those accompanying menstruation. Though the scope is, intentionally, not as comprehensive as many handbooks on adolescence, the authors address nitty-gritty, practical details not usually included in such tomes (e.g.," tips on improvising a sanitary pad). In addition to answering a range of """"What if?"""" questions that would be embarrassing for many girls to ask", the authors also cover such subjects as what to expect from a visit to a gynecologist; living with pimples," cramps and """"weird emotions""""; and how to communicate better with parents. A comforting chapter about physical development draws an important distinction between being """"normal"""" and being """"like everyone else."""" Though sometimes silly or cliched", Palen's cartoon illustrations echo the candor of the text and reinforce its kid-friendly approach. Ages 8-up. (Mar.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
