Through it all, Zinn highlights the lives of settlers, slaves, women, unionists, soldiers, and activists, portraying them not as categories or representatives of a group but as flesh-and-blood people whose interests and motives helped shape America. In doing so, Zinn makes history more interesting, provides a deeper understanding, and brings a greater truth to the story. This is an incredible book. It contains many of the truths our public schools/government does not want our students to know. This should be required reading for every high school student. The text is very readable and one can skip back and forth between decades or subject. The book contained the best explanation and history of the Vietnam War I've read.

This is a fantastic book. As long as you are willing to learn about our country's past, you will not be disappointed. This book is about truth and the struggles. This is what the history books dont want to include because they are written by those who won the wars.

i just needed this book for class. i'm not a history buff but its a good read. the condition was okay.
