Longtime friends and creative partners--the young Polly Harvey`s very first band in the late 1980s was fronted by Parish--the duo have a long personal history together. But what`s most impressive about this album is how much both artists have grown in the dozen-plus years since they last worked together at length. Seemingly free from her need to make each album a stand-alone exploration of one particular mood or musical style, Harvey embraces an atypical musical eclectisim here that ranges from noir film score jazz to folk-rock, while Parish`s tunes and arrangements are richer than ever before.
