Personnel: Peter Malick (vocals, guitar); Norah Jones (vocals, piano); Mike Thompson (accordion, piano); Tom West (piano); Danny McGough (Wurlitzer organ, Mellotron); Eric Gardner, Marty Richards (drums). Audio Mixer: Ducky Carlisle. Liner Note Author: Peter Malick. Recording information: Popsquad, West Hollywood, CA (08/??/2000-05/11/2003); Room 9 From Outer Space, South Boston, MA (08/??/2000-05/11/2003). The album NEW YORK CITY, released in 2003 under the name the Peter Malick Group, found Grammy-winning singer Norah Jones joining guitarist Malick for a session of mellow, rootsy blues tracks. Jones's gauzy vocals fit perfectly with the mood of the music, and the album was a success. THE CHILL ALBUM, released subsequently, featured downtempo DJ remixes of NEW YORK CITY's tracks, while THE REMIX ALBUM, another remix treatment of the Jones/Malick project, focused on groove-oriented versions. THE DELUXE NEW YORK CITY COLLECTION brings together all three albums. A glance at the track list might frighten off those unfamiliar with the albums, since the same six song titles appear over and over across the 31 tracks of the double album. But the DJ tracks are so radically transformed that they may as well have come from a different universe (while still retaining the enticing, relaxed mood of the originals). The set comes recommended to fans of Jones, contemporary blues, and downtempo electronica.
