Those kings of cinematic quirkiness, the Coen brothers, fashioned their film O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? as a contemporary adaption of Homer`s Odyssey, centering around a group of American chain-gang prisoners. The film`s earthy Southern setting makes it a natural for a bluegrass-oriented soundtrack, for which producer T-Bone Burnett picked the cream of the country crop.
"Didn`t Leave Nobody But the Baby," for example, is a summit meeting of some of the finest contemporary female country vocalists (Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, and Alison Krauss). The old school isn`t forgotten either, as evidenced by a chilling a cappella rendering of "O Death," courtesy of Ralph Stanley, and by the closing cut, where the Stanley Brothers issue an elegant plea to heaven with "Angel Band."

      • Oh Brother Where art thou?

        I have enjoyed the music but not very happy. Several songs skip and I have tried the cd in 2 different boom boxes and my cd player and my neighbors cd player. The cd is damaged and I will never purchace another cd from Overstock again.

      • Very funny

        Something eveyone would enjoy and wan't to liston to all the time.The movie is even better if you like old time movies and music you need this cd and the movie.Its funny and it will keep you watching to the end just to see what happens and the music is so good most of it is old school but its good you will have a good time hearing it by yourself or with friends and family.

      • Fun CD

        Though I was hesitant to see it, I really enjoyed the movie. I am not a blue grass fan but these songs are amazing. I would occasionaly listen over YouTube and finally decided to buy the CD.
