A classic returns to form
from Bettendorf, IA,  Feb 5, 2009

In 1969, The Bee Gees released their most complex album to date, Odessa. The original was a two record set packaged inside a red flocked cover. The cover art was soon reduced to a regular format when workers started setting sick applying the 'flocking' material. The music contained the brothers Gibb at their most adventurous; a bit of country rock a la The Band, Moody Blues-ish arrangements, instrumentals and the ballads for which they were known. The detail for all the tracks is described in the booklet contained in the package. In the 1990s, the CD was released as a one-disc affair. The mastering to disc was weak and the majestic sound of the original LP was somewhat lost. Leave it to Rhino records to restore this lost gem to its splendor...and then some. This three-disc reissue comtains the restored stereo and mono versions on separate discs but also includes a third disc of demos and alternate takes that takes inside the process of recording. There is a well-annotated booklet, poster and even a sticker for your car. The chances that you actually put on the sticker depends on how many of you still own your 1971 Fiat 128s! Oh, by the way, the cover art has returned. There is something comfortable about the felt feel of this package that makes you long for the old harmonies and arrangements of the Bee Gees, pre-disco. Overstock had the best price of all of the outlets in-store and online. The shipping was quick and safe.
