Renee Zellweger stars opposite Harry Connick Jr. in this snow-packed romantic comedy. NEW IN TOWN begins in Miami, home to Lucy Hill (Zellweger), a single, high-powered executive on the fast track to being a CEO. With her spiked heels, plush bachelorette pad, and fierce collection of power suits, Lucy is unprepared when her boss sends her to snowy Minnesota to work on-site at one of the company's factories. Reluctantly leaving her sunny home, Lucy lands in New Ulm, a small town distinguished by a thick Midwestern accent, a strong work ethic, and an appropriately skeptical attitude toward big-city newcomers like Lucy, who finds herself in a brutal battle against several factory workers, a nosy assistant (Siobhan Fallon), and a stubborn union rep (Connick) who, as fate would have it, just happens to be a love interest as well. Zellweger appears a bit wooden at the start of the film but eases into her role as the film progresses. As her character grows more comfortable in her own skin and develops some empathy towards her new neighbors, we see Zellweger's familiar charm emerge. Much of the film's humor comes at the expense of Minnesotans, but the cast delivers the jokes in good fun. Director Jonas Elmer captures some chemistry between his two leads, though the film doesn't rely too heavily on this romance. Instead, it explores the differences in small- versus big-town life, exposing the unique, homey appeal of the former. By focusing on the people working behind the scenes, NEW IN TOWN celebrates a way of American life that is rarely the focus of Hollywood romantic comedies.

    • Heartwarmingly real!

My husband & I first viewed this movie in the theater. I purchased the DVD as a gift for my husband, knowing how much we had both enjoyed it. If you like the leads, Harry & Renee, a movie that builds a story--- not just a bunch of disconnected, random "hash", held together by "in your face" sex, violence or computer graphics---then this funny, romantic, very real movie would be a hit with you!

    • Great Romantic Comedy!

This movie is a great romantic comedy. If you are alone, and want a good movie to watch for the night, this is it! There are points in the movie that made me want to jump right in. They had me giggling and squealing. There is true chemistry in this film. It is a great couple or individual movie. Just a ball of fun!

    • Cute & Accurate

This movie was cute and funny and I appreciated the accuracy of what it is like to move to the middle of nowhere. Some movies go over the top on that but this film did it well. Having moved from a city to the middle of nowhere I could totally relate to the main character in this film trying to figure out the strange new culture she had moved into. While there certainly weren't any Harry Conick Jrs where I moved there certainly was snow, cows on the road, real fireplaces and people who dressed and spoke very differently than I did. Like I said cute movie and worth watching.

    • Lighthearted

This is a thoughtful, funny and lighthearted comedy. The acting is above par, although probably not academy worthy. Dialogue is catchy and colloquial, however sometimes ridiculously corny. Makes fun of small town life, without too much shameless mockery. A cute love story is woven through the plot and makes a nice addition, but is not the main plot point. Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr. make the romance and drama very believable. This is an excellent feel-good flick great for a laugh or a cold night in. Don't expect it too make any critic's choice award's or wow you with subtlety or surprises though. It is what it is - predictable and cute.
