This is the second of four full-color graphic novels in a series adapting the internationally popular animated film MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, which concerns the adventures of two girls who have just moved into a country house. In this installment, four-year-old Mei follows a trail of acorns through the marvelously green countryside, which leads to her discovery of three forest spirits, mysterious creatures who resemble raccoons, living inside an enormous camphor tree. As in the previous volume, the background art is simply stunning. But the characters are given their due, too: the forest spirits, each one of which is known as a Totoro, are so adorable that figures of them have spawned an entire merchandising industry in Japan. Printed in the original Japanese right-to-left orientation, the book also includes a glossary of sound effects.
