Neil Simon's screenplay is a clever spoof on murder mysteries in which eccentric millionaire Lionel Twain (Truman Capote) invites the world's greatest detectives to his home and challenges them to solve the perfect murder. Among the sleuths that try to solve the case are Milo Perrier (James Coco), Sam Diamond (Peter Falk), Jessica Marbles (Elsa Lanchester), Dick and Dora Charleston (David Niven and Maggie Smith), and Sidney Wang (Peter Sellers), all of whom are easy-to-guess but altogether sharp parodies of beloved literary characters.

Murder by Death

Saw this when it first came out and it's still funny.Did have to explain to my daughter who the various detectives were, but she and my grandchildren loved it-although we made sure we explained some of the scenes to the kids.

Murder by Death - hysterical while interesting

It's really funny! Interesting characters and, yes, a bit of a mystery too. I remember seeing it as a kid but it's even funnier as an adult. It's pretty tame too, so you can watch with a range of age groups and not shock. Peter Falk is wonderful anyway, so that alone it worth a view (if you're a fan!)

They don't make 'em like this anymore! Classic comedy you can watch over and over again and never tire of it. Add another star if you're a Peter Falk fan. Minus one if you don't like to pay close attention to a movie. Shh! No talking please.

I first saw this movie when I was a kid but now I absolutely love it. When I was younger, I just laughed at the obvious jokes and spoofs. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate the more "mature" jokes. It is such a great movie and I literally watch it over and over again.
